The Storyline of Arianna
Arianna is nineteen years old and has yet to experience her first menstrual cycle. Despite the fact that her breasts have become slightly bigger, which causes her some discomfort, the hormones recommended by her doctor do not appear to be assisting with her maturation. Her parents decide to take her back to the lake house in Bolsena where they all used to vacation one summer. Arianna hasn’t been back there since she was three. While residing in the house, Arianna’s old memories begin to resurface and, as parts of a puzzle, begin to gently fall into place.
Arianna wants to stay behind to study for her exams but her parents tell her it’s time to return to the city for a few days. Her father agrees, but the thought makes her mother very uneasy; in fact, her mother has been acting suspiciously since they arrived at the lake house. Arianna’s examination of her past involves the exploration of her body on her own, as the first afternoons pass slowly and silently. The meeting with her young cousin Celeste, whose feminine figure is markedly different from Arianna’s, as well as the fact that Celeste, unlike Arianna, has already lost her virginity, forces Arianna to confront the true nature of her sexuality.
