The Storyline of Crashing Through the Snow
Maggie Collins and Jeff Randall have remained great friends in Austin, which has helped them raise their two children, twelve-year-old Mia Randall and adolescent Sophie Randall, notably during the holidays, which they have all spent together even after the breakup. With the arrival of Jeff’s new girlfriend, Kate Reynolds, into the picture, things have altered this Christmas. She and Jeff are taking the girls to Aspen to spend Christmas with her father Ted Reynolds and stepmother Susan Reynolds.
Maggie leaps at the chance to spend Christmas with Kate and her family, despite not understanding Kate’s wealthy family circumstances or the events that will take place at the family estate. Kate and Jeff are also usurping Maggie’s special moments as a mother with her daughters, and Kate and Jeff are usurping many of the Collins-Randall Christmas traditions with their wall-to-wall scheduling of Christmas events for the girls. With the unexpected arrival of Kate’s brother, Tokyo-based chef Sam Reynolds, the family’s black sheep, the power balance shifts.
Sam decides to help Maggie reclaim Christmas with her girls in exchange for her professional assistance as a graphic designer in a business presentation he is about to make concerning what used to be a Reynolds family company, which is the real reason he returned for the holidays. Further issues arise when it appears like Maggie and Sam are falling in love, a steady relationship that has never been a part of Sam’s life.
