Storyline!
Evelyn Lau (played by Sandra Oh in her breakthrough role) is a gifted young writer growing up in a strict, traditional Chinese-Canadian household. Her parents, particularly her controlling mother, have high expectations for her, demanding academic excellence and obedience. However, Evelyn feels trapped by their rigid rules and suffocating expectations.
